￡180m contract signed to spruce up Glasgow's hospital service

The renovation of Glasgow's hospital services which includes sprucing up the technology front of the hospital has indeed taken a positive turn after the signing of a// ￡180m contract to reconstruct the Stobhill and Victoria hospitals. The work is scheduled to commence in the latter part of the year and will be ready for patients by 2009.

An additional ￡20m will be pumped in, making it the highest investment ever in the United Kingdom. This is slated to give a thrust to the economy, simultaneously enabling construction jobs in large numbers during the renovation period.

The two new state-of-the-art hospitals, will enable an array of specialty services which include day surgery, ENT surgery, gynecology, urology, renal dialysis, plastic surgery, outpatient clinics, diagnostic services and therapy care.

Tom Divers, Chief Executive, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said:'This is a tremendously exciting time as it represents the beginning of ambitious hospital modernisation programme which will see the completion of a new West of Scotland Cancer Centre on the Gartnavel Hospitals site and the submission of a business case for a new￡100m children's hospital on the Southern General Campus at the end of this year. In addition to being a major investment in healthcare, the new construction jobs created will also benefit the local econom.'
