“Don’t compromise–get your asthma under control” is the messge!

September is the asthma control month. The need for asthmatic people to control their symptoms will be stressed upon, this month.//

Asthmatic people like Martin Comerford, a hurler from Kilkenny, footballers Colin Moran from Dublin, Tommy Griffin from Kerry and referee Brian Gavin have not let the problem have a negative impact on their lives.

Asthma Control Month is being supported by these GAA figures. They will participate in information roadshow that will be conducted in major cities and towns.

Asthma assessment will be conducted by respiratory nurses and those with asthma will be advised to complete the Asthma Control Test. Control over symptoms will be determined by this simple tool. Based on the results of the test, people will be advised to visit their local GP.

Symptoms of shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness and coughing were experienced by Martin, who was first diagnosed with asthma when he was a child. He has never let this condition influence his career. He will be representing Kilkenny in the All Ireland Hurling Final.

"Thankfully, treatments today have come a long way and I no longer have to worry about having an asthma attack, leaving me to concentrate fully on my game and the next All-Ireland."

Martin said that he would persuade everybody with asthma to not let their condition become an obstacle in what they want to get in life.

Allen & Hanburys is organizing Asthma Control Month 2006 and Asthma Society of Ireland is supporting it.
