‘Nursing’ a Dream in Foreign Lans

Washington – Today, the nursing profession is sought after. The demand for qualified nurses in many foreign countries has made the noble profession,// lucrative. Many native nurses are making a beeline to foreign lands, in search of greener pastures. Therefore, it has become an exciting profession in recent years.

According to census figures, there has been an exodus of nurses leaving their homeland to find work in the Unites States. In the 1990 alone, nearly 8.5% of all newly registered nurses in the United States were foreign trained. The number of nurses leaving their lands had trebled since 1990.

In the year 2000, this figure had jumped to 15.2 percent. It was also seen that 21% of the foreign trained registered nurses hailed from the poorer nations like Africa. The report, published in the American Journal of Public Health, summarizes, "The prospect for higher wages overseas attracts talented local workers to the field of nursing, which may increase local and worldwide nursing supply."

The report has advised nurses to be prudent and keep abreast of policy changes, so that they are aware of the implications of seeking employment abroad.
