$8.4-million to Aid in Fight against Heart Disease in Ottawa

Health Minister has said that Ottawa would invest $8.4-million over a period of two years to develop a new heart health strategy.//

Tony Clement said that the money would initially be used to determine the extent of cardiovascular disease in Canada, particularly hypertension, following which a plan of attack could be formulated.

He said, "To date, this country has lacked a comprehensive and integrated pan-Canadian heart health strategy" addressing the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress in Vancouver.

The conference, will be attended by around 3,500 people. It was opened yesterday and runs until Wednesday.
