Five-Day, Nine-Stop 'Tour to Insure' will Highlight Need to Reduce Costs, Expand Coverage

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell will continue his campaign to reduce the costs of health care and expand access to health insurance coverage with the passage of the remainder of his "Prescription for Pennsylvania" reform plan on Tuesday, Oct. 9, with a statewide bus tour. The five-day, nine-stop "Tour to Insure" will include news conferences and town hall meetings.

"It is critical that we continue to fight for lower cost, higher quality health care," said Governor Rendell. "The General Assembly passed important parts of my Prescription for Pennsylvania reform plan this spring, but we can not stop until insurance reforms and the Cover All Pennsylvanians initiative are passed."

Cover All Pennsylvanians -- or CAP -- is the Governor's proposal to make quality health care accessible to small businesses and individuals without insurance.

At each stop, Pennsylvanians will be encouraged to share their personal stories about how being uninsured or underinsured has impacted their lives.

On Oct. 2, Governor Rendell and more than 500 advocates from across Pennsylvania gathered in the Capitol Rotunda to kick off the campaign to Cover All Pennsylvanians. That day, CAP was introduced in the state House by Rep. Mike Sturla (HB 1870) with a similar bill introduced in the Senate by Sen. Jay Costa.
