e. "During our VWworld - 2009 presentation, we discussed the nature of the 911 Center and the requirement of a virtualization platform with robust, mature features. VMware was leveraged in the Public Safety system in ways that changed how vendors were able to deploy and support their applications. We've seen this come full circle now with some of the initial vendors involved changing how they leverage VMware in support of such critical systems" continued Mr. Walker. "Additionally, this project was all about experience, adaptability and perseverance. Prior experiences were leveraged in creative ways to remain flexible to constant changes, adapting to the new constraints and meeting the objectives. In any large complex project, it certainly helps to be able to anticipate the challenges and risks and adapt the approach. In this environment, the risks were ratcheted up and failure was not an option. We met the project objectives without a single loss of the ability to provide emergency Fire, Police and EMS services to the inhabitants of Washington County. The entire project team was tested - repeatedly - and the ability to deal with obstacles and keep moving forward was paramount."

Washington County also understood there were going to be challenges to the project, but with the right project team and solutions in place the benefits would certainly outweigh the alternatives of not upgrading the 911 call center for the future. "As we presented to the VMworld - 2009 audience, our project budget did not include building a new 911 call center, so we had to upgrade the existing facility and keep all public safety operations functional over the life of the project," said Mr. Dan Briner, Chief Information Officer at Washington County and featured speaker at VMworld - 2009.
