Nevada Kids 'Kick Butts' on March 24

n-money">$565 million in health care bills each year.  Currently, 13.6 percent of the state's high school students smoke, and 10,200 kids try cigarettes for the first time each year.

On Kick Butts Day, kids turn the tables on Big Tobacco with events that range from "They put WHAT in a cigarette?" demonstrations to mock-funerals for the Marlboro Man to rallies at state capitols. Activities in Nevada include (all events are on March 24 unless otherwise noted):

On March 25, Students Taking on Prevention (S.T.O.P.) will visit classes at Jack's Valley Elementary School to explain the harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke.  They will also have students create a graffiti wall where they display powerful messages about tobacco's toll on them and their loved ones.  Time: 8 AM.  Location: 701 Jacks Valley Road, Carson City.  Contact: Linda Gilkerson (775) 782-8611.

In Dayton, Stand Tall Don't Fall students will hang paper skeleton cutouts throughout the hallways at Dayton High School to illustrate the deathly and harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke. T
