Memorial Blood Centers in Urgent Need of Type O Negative and Type B Negative Blood Donors

ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The need for blood never takes a vacation. Every two seconds, someone in our community needs blood. From premature infants to an organ transplant recipient who will typically require 40 units of blood to survive. And right now, the need is urgent.
We are currently facing a shortage of Type 0 negative, the universal blood type that can be given to save the life of anyone, from premature infants and children having heart surgery to an organ transplant recipient who will typically require 40 units of blood to survive. Type B negative blood also is urgently needed.
Don't know your type? Stop and visit Memorial Blood Centers at the Minnesota State Fair in the HealthFair Building on Dan Patch Ave. and Cooper St. Get your blood typed and then schedule an appointment to donate. All blood types are in constant demand, the supply is not.
Fast Facts about Giving a Gift to Your Community:
- All donations are processed and available for use within 24-48 hours.
- Each unit of blood can help up to three people.
- There is no substitute for human blood.
- Donating is safe, convenient, and takes only about 45 minutes including registration and a mini-physical.
Donors 17 and older must be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds; donors 16 years of age must weigh at least 130 pounds, be at least 5 feet tall, and have written parental consent. While walk-in donors are always welcome, appointments can be made in advance by visiting www.memorialbloodcenters.org.
