LA BioMed researcher to receive prestigious honor

e American Thoracic Society for his contribution to the establishment of the society's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Assembly.

He is president of the Pulmonary Education and Research Foundation, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to advancing the scientific basis and practice of pulmonary rehabilitation. To date, he has authored 207 publications and 184 abstracts.

At LA BioMed, Dr. Casaburi directs the Rehabilitation Clinical Trials Center, a facility dedicated to performing clinical research aimed at improving the lives of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the fourth leading cause of death in the United States.

In addition to his work at LA BioMed, Dr. Casaburi is associate chief for Research and professor of medicine in the Division of Respiratory and Critical Care Physiology and Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He is also director of Clinical Respiratory Physiology.

He received his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, before qualifying in medicine from the University of Miami, School of Medicine.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and he is a member of the American Physiological Society and the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Casaburi currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society and the Journal of COPD.
