Date:3/22/2011

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2011 The modern drug discovery process is the topic of the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars for scientists and chemical professionals.

Scheduled for Thursday, March 24, from 2 3 p.m., EDT, the free webinar features Terry Kenakin, a Director of Platform Technology Sciences at GlaxoSmithKline Research and Development in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Participants will learn:

  • Stages of the modern drug discovery process
  • How pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are used to guide discovery
  • The primary assays used in discovery and development to guide optimization of efficacy and PK properties, what these assays give you, and how to interpret the data

Kenakin earned his B.S. in chemistry and Ph.D. in pharmacology at the University of Alberta, Canada. After three years at University College, London, UK, he joined Burroughs-Wellcome as a senior research pharmacologist. He then joined GlaxoSmithKline. Kenakin is the author of eight books on pharmacology including most recently, A Pharmacology Primer, Third Edition: Theory, Application and Methods.
