Louder Than Words author joins experts and parents at convention on autism research and treatment

ATLANTA, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Autism Association (NAA) announced today that actress and author Jenny McCarthy will speak to parents about the impact autism has had upon her family at the organization's National Autism Conference, November 8 - 11. Ms. McCarthy's latest bestselling book, Louder than Words, chronicles her journey with her son Evan through his autism diagnosis, biomedical treatment, and ongoing recovery.

"Jenny brings a refreshing new energy and passion to the effort to bring concerns about vaccines to both the public at large and mainstream medical professionals. Jenny has put into words what so many of us have believed for years - and people are finally listening," said NAA board chair and parent Claire Bothwell. "When it comes to vaccines, one size doesn't fit all, and Jenny is getting this truth out in the open where it belongs."

In recent television appearances including Oprah and Larry King Live, Ms. McCarthy urged health care providers to start "listening to the moms" regarding the development of autism following vaccination in previously healthy children. The number of vaccines given to infants and young children has risen dramatically over the past two decades. Some of these vaccines contained thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative still used in most flu shots, which many parents cite as a primary trigger of regression among their typically developing children.

"Parents and the medical community need to know that there is hope for children diagnosed with autism," stated Ms. McCarthy. "Recovery is possible through appropriate biomedical treatment and I urge parents to seek out the professionals who are willing to think outside the box on behalf of children suffering with autism."

In addition to addressing the conference attendees on Friday afternoon, Ms. McCarthy and Speech Patho
