Hondros College Expands School of Nursing to Columbus and Dayton; Students Can Begin LPN Education Almost I...( COLUMBUS Ohio Feb. 12 /- Hondros ...),Health

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Hondros College's (http://www.hondros.edu) Westerville and Fairborn campuses will welcome its first nursing students in April, following recent approval by the Ohio Board of Nursing and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to expand the program. The two new campuses are an addition to the West Chester campus which has been offering the nursing program since January 2007 and recently graduated their first Practical Nursing class in December. Students with no nursing experience can be ready for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) exam in four quarters (44 weeks). They can then choose to work as an LPN or continue their education and pursue the associate degree/RN requirements.

"With projections that by 2020 one in four Ohio nursing jobs could be vacant, Hondros College saw a need it could help fill," said Deborah Ulrich, PhD, RN, dean of the Hondros College School of Nursing. "Interest in a nursing career continues to skyrocket, creating an enrollment challenge for area nursing schools. Many programs have to deny qualified applicants simply due to lack of space in their program. In 2005-2006, lack of space accounted for over 7,400 qualified applicants being denied enrollment in Ohio RN education programs."

While many nursing programs have waiting lists for enrollment, students can start almost immediately in Hondros College's nursing education program. New classes begin four times yearly (January, April, July and October), so students no longer need to wait until autumn for enrollment or worry that a required class won't be offered for another year, Ulrich explained.
