Esteemed leader Vishwa Mohan Katoch, M.D., to give special lecture at AACR International Conference

GURGAON, Delhi (NCR), India -- Vishwa Mohan Katoch, M.D., will give a special lecture entitled "Cancer Research in India: Future Directions" at the AACR International Conference on New Horizons in Cancer Research: Biology to Prevention to Therapy, Dec. 13-16, 2011, in Gurgaon, Delhi (NCR), India.

Katoch is secretary to the Government of India Department of Health Research and director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICRM) in New Delhi, India.

The American Association for Cancer Research welcomes media attendance at this special lecture, which will be held on Friday, Dec. 16 from 9:10 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., in the Pearl Ballroom of the Leela Kempinski Gurgaon.

New technologies and new disciplines are helping to accelerate the development of new treatments, and Indian scientists and clinicians are making great contributions to the field," said Margaret Foti, Ph.D., M.D. (h.c.), chief executive officer of the AACR. "We are honored to hear Dr. Katoch's vision for the future of cancer research in India, which will undoubtedly provide a dynamic platform for the establishment of new collaborations on an international scale."

Katoch earned his doctorate in medical microbiology in 1978. He specializes in the molecular biology of mycobacteria, taxonomy and epidemiology of mycobacterial diseases and the functional genomics of mycobacteria.

In addition, Katoch is a fellow of the National Academy of Science, the National Academy of Medical Science, the Indian Academy of Science and the Indian National Science Academy. Katoch has contributed to numerous articles in prestigious journals such as Leprosy Review, International Journal of Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, American Journal of Tropical and Medical Hygiene, Applied Environmental Microbiology and Vaccine.
