da Vinci Lawsuit News: Rottenstein Law Group LLP Comments on Report of Need for Surgical Robot Training
Date:11/17/2013

(PRWEB) November 17, 2013

A growing number of da Vinci surgical robot adverse event reports to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has led hospitals to consider improving training procedures for the $1.5 million devices. The Rottenstein Law Group LLP, which provides information on da Vinci lawsuits and side effects at http://www.davincilawsuit.us, notes that the number of reports has more than doubled in 2013 compared to 2012.

Through Nov. 3 there were more than 3,600 adverse event reports, and about 1,600 through all of 2012, according to a Nov. 11 story in Bloomberg Businessweek.* Surgeons suggested that the complexity of the da Vinci surgical robot system is contributing to incidents, such as injuries during surgical procedures. The article also said that an increase in da Vinci lawsuits could be contributing to hospitals’ decision to better prepare surgeons to use the device.

“Given what we hear daily from those considering da Vinci lawsuits, it seems it is a positive development that surgeons should be better prepared for use of the device,” said Rochelle Rottenstein, principal of the Rottenstein Law Group LLP.

The da Vinci surgical robot features four mechanical arms with precision surgical tools and a camera, designed to allow a surgeon to perform procedures such as prostate removals and hysterectomies less invasively than through traditional methods. However, the medical device has been found to cause potentially dangerous side effects, such as internal burns, nerve damage and lacerations, according to a July 12 Bloomberg article.**

The Rottenstein Law Group LLP encourages those who believe that their da Vinci robotic surgery harmed them to visit the firm’s da Vinci lawsuits FAQ page for quick answers to their questions and to contact an attorney for a free consultation.

Intuitive Surgical asserts that it is fully committed to superior training opportunities for surgeons and surgical teams in the use of its products, but notes that it does not participate in determining when a surgeon is adequately prepared to operate using the da Vinci Surgical System.
