College Student's '48 States in 48 Days' Bike Ride Moves Well Beyond the Halfway Point
Date:8/25/2009

TIPP CITY, Ohio, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- One month ago, July 20, 2009, Phillip Nagle began his quest to bicycle through all 48 states in the continental U.S. in 48 days, a total of nearly 8,000 miles. Starting from his hometown of Tipp City, Ohio, Nagle now has passed well beyond the halfway point on his route, bicycling through 32 states and nearing the Pacific Northwest.

In addition to eyeing a Guinness World Record with his ride, Nagle aims to raise at least $48,000 - $1,000 for every state he rides through - to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to fund research to cure blood cancers.

Through 32 states, Nagle has:

  • Cycled some 5,000 miles.
  • Reached a personal speed record of 53 miles an hour coming down a mountain in New Hampshire.
  • Burned through more than 400,000 calories.
