'Cancer from A to Z': A Dictionary of Cancer-Related Terms
Date:5/5/2009

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Osteosarcoma is the most common and potentially most dangerous bone cancer. It primarily affects young people between the ages of 10 - 25. In "Cancer from A to Z" (published by AuthorHouse), a new cancer dictionary by Dr. Edward Laughlin, learn that before the 1980's the only treatment for osteosarcoma was amputation.

An oncologist's office can be an intimidating place to enter, and the terminology barrier does not make the feeling disappear. In Dr. Laughlin's new book, "Cancer from A to Z," barriers begins to break down, and an understanding of cancer is gained.

"Cancer from A to Z" gives an alphabetical list of terms and explanations of these terms that are easily understood. Along with explanations of terms are explanations of diagnosis and treatment of symptoms. The alphabetical listing also includes the generic and trade names of pharmaceuticals, their indications and the common side effects.

An interesting definition:

acanthosis nigricans: A skin condition characterized by flat, dark gray brown, velvety patches most often on the neck, under arms, and anal area, which may precede or occur with a variety of internal malignancies, especially stomach cancer. See also Paraneoplastic Syndrome.

Dr. Laughlin gives the early warning signs of and guidelines to detect early cancer. He includes recommendations for diet, lifestyle, nutrition and physical changes. Detailed information about common adult and childhood cancers is covered, including risk factors, symptoms and diagnosis.

Dr. Laughlin shares detailed contact information for national support services that are free of charge based on the type of cancer and needs of the patient.
