A baby boy's body is taken to the cleaners with the hospital laundry

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- A Fort Worth couple has filed a lawsuit against Huguley Memorial Medical Center after the hospital staff sent their newborn son's corpse to the cleaners with the hospital laundry.

On July 8, 2007, Kourtney McGee gave birth to her son, Jacob Dwayne Robinson, prematurely. Jacob did not survive and his body was taken to the hospital morgue.

As Ms. McGee and Milburn Robinson, the father, began making arrangements for their son's funeral they learned that Jacob's body could not be found. A Huguley Memorial Medical Center administrator and nurse informed the couple that the baby's body had been lost for 19 hours, but they were able to locate it. Jacob's body was sent to the morgue but not refrigerated, as is standard procedure. When hospital staff began clean up in the morgue, the body was collected with the laundry and sent out to a commercial laundry facility. As a result Jacob's body was severely disfigured.

"This is a tragedy for this young family," said attorney John David Hart of the Law Offices of John David Hart in Fort Worth, who represents the couple. "The irresponsible actions of Huguley compounded an already devastating event, the death of their child, with further suffering by depriving them of their opportunity to say goodbye to Jacob in a dignified manner."

The lawsuit was filed in Tarrant County by Kourtney McGee and Milburn Robinson and charges that Huguley Memorial Medical Center did not exercise ordinary care for, handling, and preparing for burial of the corpse of their son, Jacob Robinson.
