Zone Diet makes it easy for men and women to achieve a healthy balance and enjoy the outdoors

DANVERS, Mass., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- If you've thought twice about attending a pool party because of the swimsuit requirement, you're not alone. A new survey from reveals that 70 percent of Americans are self-conscious about the way their body looks during the summer - and nearly half (49 percent) admit insecurities keep them from engaging in warm-weather activities.

The study also found that more than eight in 10 (84 percent) Americans frequently think about their weight and build. On average, men and women focus on their body eight times per day - nearly 60 times a week. Of those feeling ill-at-ease, 85 percent are specifically unhappy with their abdominal/stomach region.

Health Is a Priority

The first day of summer can trigger swimsuit anxiety, often sending people in search of quick solutions -- rather than long-term balance -- to offset poor eating choices. Nearly a third (32 percent) of Americans admit they would increase their exercise regiment to "get away" with eating more of their favorite foods without worrying about weight gain.

The good news is that when it comes to staying healthy and fit, most Americans have the right intentions in mind. Four in five (81 percent) would increase their exercise routine to keep their heart functioning well and 80 percent would do so to mitigate the risk of health conditions.

Finding Balance

To help consumers find long-term balance through proper nutrition and fitness, Zone Diet launched -- an interactive resource featuring instructional videos and health tips, athlete testimonials and high-quality foods and supplements.

"For many years, Zone Diet has assisted world-class athletes in reaching peak performance levels, and helped everyday individuals look and feel better with an easy and well-balanced program," said James Buchanan, CEO and Chairman of Zone Labs, Inc. "We're thrilled to launch to provide dieters and athletes alike a one-stop shop to learn about the science behind the Zone and help achieve their weight-loss and fitness goals."

Survey Methodology

The Survey was conducted by Kelton Research between May 28-June 3, 2009 using Random Digit Dialing of listed and unlisted numbers. The survey was fielded to 1,000 nationally representative Americans 18 years and older, and consisted of 484 men and 516 women. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
