YouTube for Business: Casey Gollan’s Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Started

(PRWEB) July 26, 2013

Business-related YouTube videos are not necessarily dry, boring, or simply consist of one individual sitting in front of a camera droning on and on about their business, insists Casey Gollan in his latest tip sheet titled YouTube for Business: Casey Gollan’s Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Started.

“In fact, using YouTube for business doesn’t require a huge investment of time or money, and if done correctly, can skyrocket your business’s growth and increase its online visibility,” he adds.

The leading business coach then goes on to list video ideas such as short tutorials, interviews with industry experts, product demonstrations, staff introductions, customer testimonials and Q and A sessions.

His step-by-step guide takes the following format:

1.    Sign in to YouTube
This is achieved via the homepage and the ‘Sign In’ button at the top right hand side of the screen. Next, click on ‘Create an account.’ Once the info there has been filled out click ‘Next step’. Skip the photo and go to ‘Next Step’ then ‘Back to YouTube.’ Now click ‘Close’ rather than ‘Next.’

2.    Create a Video Channel
Once a company has a YouTube account they then need to create their video channel. This is basically a home base where all the videos ‘live’. Channels make it easy for people to see all the videos a company has uploaded, all in one place.

At the top of the screen, click on the ‘My channel’ link under ‘YouTube’. Click on ‘Create a username’ link. This is the most important information the company will be asked for because it’s the name associated with the YouTube account. The name should be short, understandable, and obviously related to the business. Using the full business name – provided it’s not too long or hard to spell – is usually a good idea.

Businesses should keep in mind that it’s only letters and numbers which can be used. No spaces are permitted. Once the username is entered, click ‘OK, I’m ready to continue’. To customize the company’s channel, click on ‘Channel Settings’ at the top of the page. Customizing the channel involves three tabs: Appearance, Info and Settings, and tabs.

For this companies should add an avatar that will be displayed next to the company’s channel name at the top of the page. This could be the company logo, or even a picture of a product. Images work best when they’re 800 x 800 pixels. The maximum size permitted by YouTube is 1MB.

Info and Settings
This section is important as the info entered here will be displayed at the top of the company’s YouTube channel, says popular business mentor Gollan. Companies should select a title for the channel, a description, and relevant tags. Typically the title will be the username or something close to it. The description should give a brief overview of what users will be able to find on the channel, and the tags should be relevant key phrases people may use to find the channel.

The main setting companies should adjust on this tab is the feed settings. It’s possible to be able to approve comments before they go public, simply by checking off the ‘Don’t display until approved’ box.

3.    Step 3 (Optional): Sign up for a Branded YouTube Channel
Signing up for a branded YouTube channel involves contacting the YouTube sales team via a brief form. Branded channels must advertise on YouTube in order to keep their branded channel active, business guide Gollan warns.

The benefits of branded channels is that they offer a greater ability to customize the look and feel of a channel, to limit accessibility to the channel by age or gender and provide access to advanced metrics and statistics.

4.    Step 4: Add Videos
Companies should go to the ‘Upload’ button at the top of the screen next to the search box. Click on it then ‘Select files to upload.’ They should then choose the video and give it a title, description and tags. These tags will also be the meta tags for the video.

5.    Step 5: Promote the Channel
This can be achieved via the company website, email list and social media. Download free YouTube icons for the company site or embed the actual YouTube videos via the ‘Share’ button under the video on YouTube.
