The sentences were the result of Operation Remaster, an extensive undercover investigation by the FBI in which agents seized approximately 494,000 pirated music, software, and movie CDs, and DVDs, and more than 6,135 stampers (devices used to produce high-quality counterfeit copies on optical disks), from 13 different locations. This case is believed to be the largest ever manufacturing case involving commercially duplicated, high-quality counterfeits that closely resemble authentic CDs in US history.
