National Business Group on Health Recognizes Wrigley for its Commitment to Workplace Health & Wellness
CHICAGO, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company was honored with a Silver Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award from the National Business Group on Health (NBGH), a non-profit organization dedicated to finding innovative healthcare solutions. The award was granted to Wrigley for its continuing efforts to promote a healthy work environment and supporting associates and families in making better choices about their own health and well-being.
Wrigley was among only 63 companies to receive the acknowledgement, presented at the Joint Summit of the Institutes on Health Care Costs and Solutions & the Costs and Health Effects of Obesity last night in Arlington, Virginia.
"Wrigley is proud to be recognized for our health and wellness commitment by the National Business Group on Health," said Dushan Petrovich, president of the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company. "Fostering a healthy work environment through innovative wellness programs is not only the right thing to do for our associates, it also makes for an engaging and productive work environment."
Throughout the company, Wrigley has consistently taken steps to promote programs that create a healthy workplace and encourage associates to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Specifically, Wrigley partners with HealthString, a comprehensive resource that connects patients and providers with tools to manage their health, including:
Wrigley also offers generous medical benefits to cover annual preventative care, which is paid in full by the company and available to all associates and retirees. It provides leading dental, medical and pharmacy benefits and gives its associates access to physicians on-site and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, including assistance for emotional and personal conflicts and complimentary counseling sessions.
In addition, Wrigley offers many other progressive wellness programs that were critical to receiving the award. To keep healthy while on the job, Wrigley provides associates access to onsite fitness equipment, where available, healthy dining options and discounts at local fitness clubs. Pre-shift stretching and warm-up exercises are also commonplace at the manufacturing sites. Wrigley also provides multiple options for smoking cessation, including behavior change programs, workplace groups and personal coaching through HealthString's Nurse Coaches.
In its headquartered city of Chicago, Wrigley encourages city-wide physical activity through a number of sponsored events. It is the title sponsor of the "Wrigley Start Early Run and Pledge Walk," which encourages families to get out and enjoy physical activity along the shoreline of Lake Michigan while raising money for Voices for Illinois Children and Prevent Child Abuse America.
Now in its fifth year, the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards recognize those employers that have truly embraced a culture of wellness and are working collaboratively to improve their workers' health, productivity and quality of life. The underlying goal of the program is to serve as a catalyst to encourage all employers to take action.
"We are proud to recognize 63 large employers for the unparalleled commitment to a healthy workplace and for making their employees' health and well-being a top priority," said Helen Darling, President, National Business Group on Health. "Employers know first-hand that a healthy workforce is essential to increasing productivity and to maintaining a competitive edge in the new global economy."
