New York, New York (PRWEB) June 23, 2013
As Wright hip lawsuits continue to move forward in courts around the country, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that Wright Medical Group has announced the sale of its OrthoRecon business* Although this division is responsible for both Wright Conserve Hip Replacements and Wright Profemur Total Hip Replacement Systems, lawsuits involving these devices will continue to proceed in spite of the sale, according to the Firm.
“It’s important that plaintiffs and potential plaintiffs in Wright hip lawsuits understand that this development will not impact their right to seek redress for their alleged injuries,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is actively filing Wright hip lawsuits, and continues to offer free legal evaluations to individuals who suffered serious complications, allegedly due to Wright Conserve and Wright Profemur hip replacements.
Wright Hip Lawsuits
Court documents indicate that at least 41 Wright hip lawsuits involving the Conserve line of artificial hips are currently pending in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia. (In re: Wright Medical Technology, Inc., Conserve Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2329) Wright Medical Group also disclosed in April that additional Conserve hip replacement lawsuits had been filed in state court in California, a number of which have been consolidated for pretrial handling pursuant to procedures of California State Judicial Counsel Coordinated Proceedings. All of these claims allege the metal-on-metal design of the Wright Conserve Total Hip Implant System, the Conserve Total A-Class Advanced Metal Hip Implant System, and the Conserve Resurfacing System caused the shedding of excess metal ion in recipients, leading to hip failure and other serious complications.**
Wright Medical Group also disclosed in April that it is facing claims involving its Wright Profemur Hip Replacement line, and cautioned that last year’s Stryker hip recall for Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems could potentially affect sales of its Profemur modular-neck stems, given the increased industry focus on the safety of cobalt chrome modular neck products.** According to a Joint Notice of Settlement filed with the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, on March 20th, a settlement has already been reached in at least one lawsuit involving the Wright Profemur hip replacement. (Tucker, et ux. v. Wright Medical Technology, Inc., et al., No. 4:11-cv-03086)
Hip recipients who experienced complications allegedly related to Wright Profemur hip replacements or Wright Conserve hips may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
