Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) September 01, 2013
Team Hope For The Warriors® is participating for the second year in a row in the Virginia Beach Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on Sunday, September 1, 2013. The Team, consisting of both wounded service members and community runners, will join together to power through 13.1 miles of Virginia Beach, VA, for a cause greater than themselves. Hope For The Warriors® (http://www.hopeforthewarriors.org) is a national nonprofit organization that assists post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.
The members of Team Hope For The Warriors® include both active duty and retired wounded service members from all branches of the military. The warriors participating in the Virginia Beach Rock ‘n’ Roll Half are just a few of the many wounded service members assisted by Hope For The Warriors®. Warriors participating will include two on handcycles in addition to Team members competing on foot. Warriors include Cpl Manny Jimenez, USMC (Ret.), a single arm amputee and active member of Team Hope For The Warriors®.
“Team Hope For The Warriors® has helped myself and many wounded service members get back into running, hand-cycling, biking and more,” said Jimenez. “With help from Hope For The Warriors®, I was able to compete in my first 10K only 12 weeks after my injury and my first half marathon four months later. Hope For The Warriors® helped me reach my goal of a triathlon only one year after my injury.”
Team Hope For The Warriors® provides athletes of all abilities the opportunity to engage the competitive spirit at endurance events. Community Team members challenge themselves to raise funds for America's heroes, set new athletic goals, or simply support our military. Together, these Team members are united by the goal to improve the rehabilitation of combat wounded service members and military families.
“An important aspect of the rehabilitation of wounded service members is reconnecting with the lives they led before they were injured,” Jenlene Nowak, Team Hope For The Warriors® Director, said. “Feeling that same rush of adrenaline lets our wounded heroes step out from under the shadows of their injuries and focus instead on all that they have accomplished.”
The mission of Hope For the Warriors® is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
