World's First Cardiac Adult Stem Cell Patient and Physicians Discuss Clinical Trial

Infusion Procedure Performed on July 17th

LOUISVILLE, Ky., July 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- University of Louisville physicians performed the world's first cardiac adult stem cell infusion procedure at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY, on July 17, 2009. The procedure is part of the first FDA-approved clinical trial using adult cardiac stem cells to treat heart disease.

The first patient, along with clinical study leader Roberto Bolli, Jewish Hospital Heart and Lung Institute Distinguished Chair in Cardiology and Director of UofL's Institute for Molecular Cardiology, and Mark Slaughter, M.D., Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UofL and Director of the Heart Transplant and Mechanical Assist Device Program at Jewish Hospital, will speak at a news briefing on Friday, July 24 at 9:30 a.m. (EDT). The location is the Jewish Hospital Heart & Lung Center, Hank Wagner Conference Center (CC) located at 201 Abraham Flexner Way in Louisville, KY.
