World-Renowned Therapist Joins The Center for Children and Families In Its Work With the Nation's Poorest Families

The Center for Children and Families, which has demonstrated great innovation and creativity in its service to arguably the nation's poorest region since its formal establishment only three years ago, is an organization of three branches. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Northeast Louisiana advocates for children who are the victims of abuse and neglect and who have become wards of the state. The Children's Advocacy Center of Northeast Louisiana, established in 2006, facilitates a collaborative effort between all parties involved in child sexual abuse cases in order to reduce the trauma a child must endure when undergoing forensic interviews, medical exams and counseling. Family Foundations is a treatment program that serves at-risk adolescents and their families through two programs: Family Preservation which was established in response to juvenile justice reform and seeks to prevent out-of-home placement of youth, and Family Reintegration, which seeks to reestablish incarcerated youth with their families.

Dr. Keeney, who is the keynote speaker for the 2008 American Counseling Association conference in Honolulu, brings to The Center for Children and Families over 32 years of experience and an internationally celebrated career in the field of family therapy, including the authorship of field classics such as Aesthetics of Change, Mind in Therapy, Improvisational Therapy, and Resource Focused Therapy (with Wendel Ray, Clinical Supervisor at The Center for Children and Families). He has just released a new book, Shaking Medicine, featured in the spring issue of Spirituality and Health. The wealth of Dr. Keeney's interests and experiences make him an immeasurable asset to The Center for Children and Families, which serves 11 culturally, racially and socioeconomically diverse parishes in North Louisiana.
