Wonders of Life Photo Contest Winners Announced
Date:12/2/2009

ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- From more than 1,100 photos capturing the moments in life that give us meaning, joy and peace, the LIFE Foundation has selected six winners in its first-ever contest conducted using the popular photo-sharing Web site flickr.com. The winning photos can be viewed in a video montage on the LIFE Foundation's Web site at www.lifehappens.org/wondersphotos.

Contestants submitted one photo and a caption to Flickr.com during September 2009. The contest coincided with Life Insurance Awareness Month, an industry-wide educational campaign coordinated by the LIFE Foundation and designed to get Americans to take stock of their life insurance needs.

The grand prize-winning photo captures the photographer's daughter making a wish for a healthy heart by blowing the seeds of a dandelion into the wind. She has had five heart surgeries. The winning photographer will receive a Canon T1i, 12.2-Megapixel Digital SLR and the five runners-up will each receive $150 gift cards from the LIFE Foundation.

"The artistry of these moving images captures moments in life that remind us all of its value, beauty and vulnerability," said Marvin H. Feldman, CLU, ChFC, RFC, president and CEO of LIFE. "These six photos not only stood out for their composition and quality, but also their fit with the Wonders of Life campaign theme and the compelling stories they tell of hope, joy or remembrance of lost loved ones. We hope these images will prompt people to think about how life insurance can help preserve the quality of life for those dearest to them. Life insurance can't bring a loved one back, but it can help ensure that a person's hopes and dreams for their family won't die when they do."

For help assessing your life insurance needs, the LIFE Foundation offers three simple steps:

Step 1: Determine how much - To determine the right amount of life insurance to fit your needs, think first about who depends on you financially, including your spouse, children and other loved ones. To help you get started, check out the interactive insurance needs calculator on LIFE's Web site at www.lifehappens.org/howmuch.

Step 2: Decide what kind - Determining the type of life insurance best suited for your needs depends on a number of factors, including how long you need the coverage, how much you can afford, how much risk you can tolerate and how much flexibility you need. Your unique financial goals and circumstances will dictate whether the right solution for you is term insurance, permanent insurance, or a combination of the two. To help make your decision easier, LIFE offers an interactive decision guide at www.lifehappens.org/whatkind.

Step 3: Get professional help - Once you're ready to purchase a policy, it's best to have an expert conduct a thorough needs analysis to ensure that all of your needs are met. According to LIMRA International, a third of Americans say they would like to discuss their life insurance needs with a professional, but the reality is that three-fourths of American households do not have a personal life insurance agent or advisor. One way to find an insurance agent is to get a recommendation from your friends, family members or a trusted advisor. You can also visit LIFE's agent locator tool at www.lifehappens.org/agentlocator.
