Women's Dermatologic Society Marks 35th Anniversary with Release of Unprecedented Book of Wisdom and Inspiration
Date:2/11/2010

WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In an exciting first for the medical specialty of dermatology, the Women's Dermatologic Society (WDS) announces the release of "Petals & Pearls"—an original collection of stories, gems of advice, vignettes and insights drawn from 164 of the organization's 1,600 members, including physicians and supporters of the Society.  The book will be unveiled to the dermatology community at the WDS 35th Annual Meeting Luncheon on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Miami, held in conjunction with the 68th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.  This trailblazing book project was generously supported by the Allergan Foundation.

"On WDS' 35th anniversary, we are thrilled to present Petals & Pearls, which reflects the wisdom, character and diversity of our members…it's a treasure chest of inspiration for readers in all professions and stages of their careers," comments Wendy E. Roberts, MD, WDS President (2009-2010) and book co-advisor.

Wilma F. Bergfeld, MD, WDS Founding President (1973-1979) and co-advisor notes,  "We are so proud to have created this landmark book, which will engage, inspire and support women and men in medicine--and beyond--in the signature WDS spirit and style.  We are quite pleased that such a fascinating range of members shared such compelling and meaningful stories to benefit our readers."

Rebecca Tung, MD, chair of the WDS Petals & Pearls Task Force adds, "We are so gratified that a wide audience representing many generations can reap the benefits of the authors' life experiences, and thankful to the Allergan Foundation for its support in publishing this remarkable book, allowing us to provide gift copies to graduating dermatology residents and members alike."

A limited supply of additional books from the first edition will be available to members and non-members on a donation basis. For more information, contact: wds@womensderm.org. Petals & Pearls design and production by Sigrid Bergfeld.  Writing and editing by Norm Friedman.
