Women’s Strike Force Endorses Democrats For Top Elected Jobs in Commonwealth of Virginia
Date:6/13/2013

(Richmond, VA) (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

The Women’s Strike Force has endorsed the slate of Democratic candidates for the top three elected slots in the Commonwealth following Virginia’s primary Tuesday.

"Congratulations to Senator Ralph Northam, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, and to Senator Mark Herring, the Democratic nominee for attorney general,” said Women’s Strike Force President Katherine Waddell. “The Women's Strike Force looks forward to working with Terry McAuliffe, Ralph Northam, Mark Herring and House candidates that support women’s reproductive rights."

State Sen. Northam beat out former White House technology czar Aneesh Chopra from Northern Virginia for the Democratic lieutenant governor spot on the ticket to run against Republican E. W. Jackson. Senator Mark Herring of Northern Virginia won against Justin Fairfax for the attorney general nomination. Herring, who NARAL called one of Virginia’s strongest champions for women’s reproductive rights since he was elected to the Senate in 2006, will face Republican Mark Obenshain in the general election.

The Women’s Strike Force is a bi-partisan Virginia political action committee (PAC) dedicated to recruiting and supporting candidates opposing elected officials who supported the mandatory ultrasound legislation in the Virginia General Assembly.

“We believe that women should make their own personal decisions without the intrusive government intervention that has characterized the McDonnell-Cuccinelli administration and the recently chosen reactionary team that wants to continue their policies,” Waddell said. “The Republicans’ choice of Ken Cuccillelli for governor, E. W. Jackson for lieutenant governor and Mark Obenshain for attorney general represent their continuing war on women and incessant intrusion into women’s reproductive healthcare decisions.”

Waddell said The Women’s Strike Force is committed to electing candidates who support women’s reproductive rights.
