Woman Was Able to Stop the Development of Diabetes in a Personalized Prediabetes Treatment Program
Date:6/12/2013

Austin, TX (PRWEB) June 12, 2013

PreDiabetes Centers is proud to announce a recent success story from one of its clients–a woman who has worked hard in a prediabetes treatment program and made remarkable improvements in her health. After just four months in the 12-month program, client Juana Ruedas received the good news: She had completely turned her health around and was prediabetes-free!

About a year ago, Juana, a 37-year-old mother and wife, realized that she wasn’t as healthy as she used to be. She started to notice small changes in her health and was battling fatigue nearly every day. She also worried about her high cholesterol. She didn’t know if diabetes ran in her family, but her dad had a disorder related to high blood pressure–a condition that is linked to diabetes–and she thought there was a good chance her family members had the disease, though they never knew it.

Juana decided to get screened for prediabetes at PreDiabetes Centers, the nation's leader in detection and treatment of prediabetes, the condition that occurs before the development of type 2 diabetes.

She showed up for a complimentary blood screening where her blood would be tested for important biomarkers associated with prediabetes. A few days later, Juana got the news that she was prediabetic.

Juana knew she needed to change her health to stop the progression to diabetes, but she didn’t quite know how.

She immediately met with the PreDiabetes Centers physician and health coach in a comprehensive consultation. At the appointment, the physician and health coach looked at her unique medical history and devised a personalized treatment plan that would get Juana’s health back into tip-top shape.

“The health team was willing to help and guide me,” said Juana.

The physician, Dr. Alan Hopkins, prescribed Juana an intensive treatment regimen that included targeted medication, nutritional supplements, stress modulation, personalized fitness and advanced dietary planning. The health coach, Tanja Burkinshaw, helped Juana understand the inner workings of her body and how prediabetes had taken hold of her health.

A few weeks into the program, Juana started to feel better. Her fatigue—a symptom of both prediabetes and underactive thyroid—was diminished. After completing the first part of the advanced nutrition plan, her energy levels skyrocketed. She had the energy of a 20-year-old, Juana said.

Today, Juana is no longer prediabetic. Her progression to prediabetes was halted in her fourth month of the treatment program: At this appointment, Juana's hemoglobin A1c score clocked in at 5.3—which is within the healthy range, according to the American Diabetes Association, and a vast improvement from her original A1c score of 5.7 (indicating a prediabetic state). At her most recent 11-month appointment, her tests showed that she had been successful at maintaining the results as she is still prediabetes-free.

Juana receives treatment for underlying medical disorders, eats a lot of greens (broccoli, lettuce, cauliflower), and has cut back on eating refined sugar. Her diet is packed with nutritious foods, she exercises nearly every day, and all of her biomarker numbers—measures of chemicals in her body—have dramatically improved.

Juana says the hardest part was overcoming old habits and the culture that surrounded her. “Your family is always eating things you need to avoid. But you learn how to make better choices.”

The best part of the program?

According to Juana, it’s the education she’s received.

“My health coach has imparted a lot to me and has helped me understand what my body needs,” she said. “She has made me see what's better for my health.”
