William H. Foster to Succeed Robert J. Lindsey as President and CEO of NCADD

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 09, 2013

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) has appointed William H. Foster, PhD, recent Dean of the Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service and former President and CEO of CASAColumbia, to be Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of NCADD succeeding Robert J. Lindsey, who is retiring from the position following nearly a decade of leadership of this vital national asset.

Greg Muth, NCADD Board Chair stated, “NCADD is extremely grateful to Bob Lindsey for the passion he brought to our mission, his thoughtful leadership and his compassion and concern for those affected by alcoholism and drug dependence.  As we move forward, we are very fortunate that Dr. Foster has joined NCADD. Dr. Foster brings decades of experience that will be instrumental in helping NCADD to expand our capacity to serve more people and fulfill our mission.”

For the past four years, Dr. Foster has served as President and CEO of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. Previously Dr. Foster served as Dean of the Muskie School of Public Service where he led the School in its continuing efforts to extend the Senator’s legacy of public service to the nation. Foster has also served as Executive Director of a Congressional Commission on select social security matters, as a policy advisor to New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley and as Chief of Staff and Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor. He also served for 17 years on the faculties at the University of Illinois - Champaign/Urbana and Rutgers University.

For nearly 70 years, NCADD has been an invaluable resource for millions of individuals and families struggling with addiction to alcohol and drugs. NCADD is the leading advocacy organization in the nation addressing addiction expressed through alcoholism and drug dependence.

Since 1944, NCADD has sought to raise public awareness about addiction throughout the United States and increasingly across the global community. Alcohol and drug use are the predominant sources of the debilitating and deadly disease of addiction that so burdens individual lives and imposes itself on society as a whole. NCADD's dedication to the implementation of both proven approaches to prevention and treatment of the disease and the advocacy of tested public policy practices for engaging and mastering addiction in America and beyond has been and remains NCADD's singular mission.

Our Mission: Founded in 1944, The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) and its National Network of Affiliates is a voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting our Nation's number one health problem -- alcoholism and drug addiction and the devastating consequences of alcohol and other drugs on individuals, families and communities.

Our Vision: To share the joy of recovery; to break down the barriers of ignorance; to encourage individuals, families, companies and communities to seek help.
