Westport, CT (PRWEB) April 15, 2013
Two Westchester County residents will receive awards at the 11th annual Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities benefit on April 26th. “The Sky’s The Limit” fundraiser, sponsored by Lindamood-Bell Learning Centers, will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, CT, celebrating the limitless potential of children with learning disabilities and ADHD.
The evening’s honorees include:
John J. Russell Ed.D: Westchester County resident Dr. John Russell will be honored for outstanding service in the support of the education of children with learning disabilities. Dr. Russell has been Head of The Windward School in White Plains, New York since 2006. Windward is an independent co-educational day school that provides an excellent education for children with language-based learning disabilities. Over the past four decades, Dr. Russell has held leadership and teaching positions in school districts in Westchester County, New York and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Dr. Russell said: “I am delighted to be honored by Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities. I wholeheartedly endorse their mission to educate, guide and inspire families of children with learning disabilities or ADHD--and to change the perception of learning disabilities as a stigmatizing condition. I believe that it is time to elevate the discussion of dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities to a national level so that the vast potential of learning disabled students can be realized in every school. I am grateful to Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities for the leadership role that it has played in this initiative.”
Beth Feldman: Beth Feldman will be awarded the Community Service Award for her work as Director of the Laurence W. Levine Foundation. Based in Bayport, NY, the foundation was started by the late Laurence Levine, a corporate attorney at Walsh & Levine and the lawyer for Argentina Airlines. After Levine’s death, his family has continued the foundation, which awards grants to charities to make a difference in the lives of the people served by that charity. Feldman is also the founder of "Sweet & Social," a cupcake and desserts shop in Larchmont, NY, where she lives with her husband, David and their two children.
Westchester County resident Kate Snow, Correspondent for NBC News “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event.
“We are fortunate to have so many local residents, educators and business owners committed to making all children – including those who learn differently – achieve their dreams,” said Rye Brook resident Terry Ann Weil, president of the Board of Directors of Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities.
The Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities benefit is sponsored by Lindamood-Bell Learning Centers, which offer one-to-one, intensive instruction, based on the individual's learning needs at 50 Learning Centers in and beyond the United States.
The gala will include a cocktail reception, dinner, music and silent and live auctions. BJ Jennings of 1st Class Benefits, will serve as the event auctioneer.
