Leading members of the U.S. House of Representatives delegation from West Virginia have also expressed their support for the InfantSEE(R) program. Reps. Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), and Nick J. Rahall, II (D-W.Va.) urged local parents to have their infant's eyes assessed during InfantSEE(R) Week.
To encourage parents to take advantage of the InfantSEE(R) program and to help protect infant vision and eye health, Governor Joe Manchin has officially declared Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 15 InfantSEE(R) Week in West Virginia.
"I am proud to be involved with InfantSEE(R) Week as part of West Virginia's commitment to children's health and wellness," said First Lady, Gayle Manchin. "I encourage parents to take advantage of this public health program to help protect their infants' vision and eye health."
One in 10 children are at risk from undiagnosed eye and vision problems, which, if undetected, could lead to permanent vision impairment, and in rare cases, life-threatening health risks. However, only 14 percent of children from infancy to age six have had a comprehensive eye assessment from an eye care professional.
