"We are pleased to open an 'AHF Pharmacy' in the heart of West Hollywood, offering expert HIV/AIDS pharmacy services, as well as free HIV testing and other medical screening services to the community," said Peter Reis, Vice President of AIDS Healthcare Foundation. "In addition to pharmacists who specializing in HIV/AIDS medications, the non-profit 'AHF Pharmacy' is fully equipped and able to fill any prescription -- not only medications used to treat HIV/AIDS -- and offers a unique alternative to the larger chain pharmacies. Ninety-six cents of every dollar made will go toward providing HIV/AIDS prevention and medical care to those in need in Los Angeles County and worldwide."

The West Hollywood location is the seventh 'AHF Pharmacy' to open in California and the first to open alongside an AHF 'Out of the Closet' thrift store. With seventeen stores throughout California -- and one South Florida -- the 'Out of the Closet' thrift store chain is the nation's largest retail fundraising vehicle for HIV/AIDS medical care and research. Several of the stores offer free HIV testing as part of AHF's innovative, alternative-site HIV testing program -- the largest such program in the state. In addition to its pharmacy operations, the West Hollywood 'AHF Pharmacy' will offer free, anonymous and confidential HIV testing and blood pressure & diabetes screenings.

"Our hope is that in addition to offering the convenience of a neighborhood pharmacy and the chance to make a difference, the West Hollywood 'AHF Pharmacy' will also play a role in local HIV/AIDS education and prevention efforts by offering free, anonymous and confidential HIV testing in a convenient, nontraditional, community-based setting," said Whitney Engeran, III, Director of AIDS Healthcare Foundation's Public Health Division.

In California, AHF provides HIV/AIDS medical care services through its thirteen healthcare centers. AHF is also the operator of Positive Healthcare California, a Medi-Cal managed care plan designed for people living with AIDS in Los Angeles County and Positive Healthcare Partners, a Medicare Advantage Part D managed care plan for people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County. Awarded a contract by California's Department of Health Services (DHS), AHF will soon roll out an innovative HIV/AIDS disease management (DM) pilot program statewide to serve California Medi-Cal recipients living with HIV/AIDS.

Among the services offered by AHF's Public Health Division are: mobile HIV testing and counseling services using mobile testing vans to reach target communities in the greater Los Angeles area, including the AHF Magic Johnson M-Power-U testing van; nontraditional venue HIV and STD testing at 'Out of the Closet' thrift stores; partner counseling and referral services; a Men's Wellness Center; and HIV testing in Los Angeles County jails.

AHF is also a partner in the landmark City of Los Angeles HIV Testing Initiative, a public/private partnership launched on World AIDS Day 2007 at an event attended by Mayor Villaraigosa, Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, Council Members Jose Huizar and Jan Perry and State Assembly Member Ted Lieu, as well as AIDS Healthcare Foundation Director of Public Health Whitney Engeran III, and officials from Orasure Technologies and Gilead Sciences, Inc. The initiative aims to encourage 1 million Los Angeles residents to get tested for HIV/AIDS by 2011.
