ATLANTA, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- MDdatacor, Inc., a leader in health care quality management solutions for insurers and health care providers, today announced new functionality to support in tracking immunizations to further enhance the Collaboration on Quality(R) Primary Care Program. The program is a collaboration between Wellmark and primary care clinicians in Iowa and South Dakota to promote improved quality care and increased efficiency. Participating clinicians already use MDdatacor's care management technology to track and improve patient outcomes around diabetes, hypertension, asthma, childhood immunizations, and cancer screenings.

MDdatacor will receive a data feed directly from the Iowa Department of Public Health's (IDPH) statewide registry of immunization histories, called IRIS (Immunization Registry Information System), where a majority of Wellmark clinicians are already entering their patient immunization data. This will ensure there is no duplication of data entry and provide clinicians with complete immunization data, including identifying which patients are in need of immunizations.

While the U.S. currently has record, or near record, low cases of vaccine-preventable diseases, the viruses and bacteria that cause them still exist, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which warns that infectious diseases can be passed on to people who are not protected by vaccines.
