WellPoint State Sponsored Business President Appointed Advisory Board Member of the HIMSS Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS, July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WellPoint (NYSE: WLP) today announced that Kevin Hayden, president of State Sponsored Business, was appointed as an Advisory Board member of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Board of Directors.

HIMSS is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of health care information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. HIMSS frames and leads healthcare public policy and industry practices through its advocacy, educational and professional development initiatives designed to promote information and management systems' contribution to ensuring quality patient care.

"Health IT is at the forefront of helping to improve the delivery of patient care and HIMSS brings together key thought leaders who value the need to advocate, educate and motivate the industry," said Hayden. He added, "I am excited about my role on HIMSS' board of directors and look forward to collaborating during this time of great debate and discussion about health care in our nation."

At WellPoint, Hayden is responsible for leading WellPoint's Medicaid business division which currently serves nearly 1.8 million members in 10 states. His career spans more than 23 years in the private and public sectors. Prior to joining WellPoint, he served as Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services for the State of Wisconsin and was responsible for leading all public health and care delivery services for over 900,000 residents. Prior to that, he served as the Wisconsin State Medicaid Director. Most notably, Hayden was a key architect in creating Badgercare Plus, an innovative program expanding coverage to all children in Wisconsin.
