WellPoint NextRx Announces New Agreement With Blue Cross of Idaho
Date:5/7/2008

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WellPoint NextRx, the nation's largest health plan-owned pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) announced a new five-year agreement with Blue Cross of Idaho to serve as the pharmacy benefits manager for their 550,000 members. NextRx has served as PBM for Blue Cross of Idaho, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, since 1997 and the renewal of this contract will extend this agreement for an additional five years.

Under this agreement, NextRx will continue to provide Blue Cross of Idaho with pharmacy benefits management services for their individual, group and Medicare Part D members. Under this agreement, Blue Cross of Idaho will utilize NextRx's fully integrated management systems to provide claims processing, network management mail services, and prior authorization services. WellPoint NextRx will also support the plan's clinical programs, drug utilization review and formulary management.

"Because of our health plan heritage, NextRx is able to work with our health plan clients to connect medical and pharmacy data to more effectively meet the needs of their members," said Renwyck Elder, president of WellPoint NextRx, a division of WellPoint, Inc. "We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Blue Cross of Idaho and help them develop programs that offer access to quality medications that are more affordable for their members."

Working collaboratively with Blue Cross of Idaho, NextRx has developed programs and initiatives that provide their members with access to quality medications while helping to manage their costs, such as the development of a generics program that allows members to try generics drugs for free for up to six months. In addition, NextRx has designed programs to educate customers who suffer from chronic conditions such as asthma or cardiovascular disease to ensure they are adhering to their medications to help them achieve improved results.
