WellPoint Named to 2009 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it has been selected for the 2009 InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. This is WellPoint's first year on the list.

"WellPoint's inclusion in the 2009 InformationWeek 500 validates many of the innovations we are implementing to simplify the connection between health, care and value for our members and their health care providers," said Lori Beer, executive vice president and chief information officer for WellPoint. "This includes our partnership with Availity, LLC, which simplifies many aspects of health care administration for providers."

As the partnership with Availity is implemented, physicians can use a single Web-based application to process their claims for WellPoint-affiliated health plans alongside claims for other plans. The savings of time and money for providers, members and customers reflects WellPoint's commitment to manage administrative costs throughout the health care system. "Every penny saved on forms, phone calls, claims and benefit administration is money that can be invested in innovative products and services that improve the health of our members," added Beer.
