Company looks to further innovation efforts through Consumer Innovation
INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) is accepting applications for its first Consumer Innovation Event. The event complements WellPoint's ongoing innovation partnership efforts by providing an accelerated process for identifying and piloting innovative programs and services.

The Consumer Innovation Event is sponsored by WellPoint's Consumer
Innovation Group and will include a wide-ranging, cross-functional team of
WellPoint corporate leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to present
ideas and programs that offer tangible benefits to consumers. Ideas and
approaches that specifically address the following are sought:
-- Consumer education and engagement
-- Improving the efficiency of health care delivery and administration
-- Payer, provider and consumer relationships
"Through this event, our goal is to identify at least one organization as a potential partner for an in-market pilot program," Pomeroy said, adding, "There are hundreds of small companies implementing innovative, new health care solutions for consumers today. Through a collaborative partnership, we will be able to leverage WellPoint's strengths with these solutions to impact a broader base of consumers more quickly."
Those interested in participating need to complete and submit an application. All applications will be screened and the top submissions will receive an invitation to attend the Consumer Innovation Event in March 2008. Companies selected to participate will be notified beginning in late January. Event invitees will have 30 minutes to present, followed by a 15-minute question and answer session.
