NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- WeissComm Partners, the largest independent communications agency focused on the healthcare industry, today announced the appointment of Tom Jones as managing director. Jones joins WeissComm from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation where he was executive director of communications, overseeing the creation, development and implementation of public relations programs for the company's growth driver brands. Prior to that, he was vice president and group manager at Ketchum where he contributed greatly to the growth of the healthcare practice.

For more than 15 years, Jones has developed and executed award-winning public relations and corporate communications initiatives, built and managed high-performance teams, and provided measurable business results for leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including AstraZeneca, Aventis, Genentech, Merck, Novartis and Pfizer.

"PR has never been more important to the healthcare industry," said Diane Weiser, COO of WeissComm Partners. "Tom is a trusted colleague with a proven track record who can hit the ground running to provide clients with the no-nonsense, on-target, strategic counsel and execution they have come to expect from our team."

Jones has directed consumer and professional communications programs on behalf of some of the world's largest prescription medicines across a broad range of therapeutic areas, including neurology, cardiology, diabetes, respiratory, dermatology, arthritis and gastrointestinal disorders. As part of these initiatives, he has developed and managed corporate and brand communications, consumer and professional outreach, issues management, media and advocacy relations, corporate reputation management, leadership communications, internal communications and new media initiatives.

"I joined WeissComm to be part of a truly senior-based team of healthcare professionals and apply my agency and corporate in-house experience to a diverse group of healthcare clients," said Jones.
