Weight Watchers(R) Launches New Community on WeightWatchers.com

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Weight Watchers (NYSE: WTW) today announced that it has launched its newly updated online community, an enhanced destination for Weight Watchers enthusiasts to become inspired and motivated to live a healthier lifestyle. The free and open-to-everyone Weight Watchers Community offers encouragement, expert insights from official contributor blogs and other resources that allow people to share their experiences and build a network of friends.

Those who register for the Community can build a unique profile page and personalize their page with photos and status updates, exchange wall posts with friends and share celebration tokens for a job well done. Like other social networks, the Weight Watchers Community allows users to browse other user profiles, find and befriend likeminded individuals.

  • Groups - For those wanting to connect with others about a particular interest, the Community offers groups for various lifestyles, goals and personalities. Current popular groups include "20's Group!!," "100+ Pounds to Lose," "Office Divas," and "New Mommies Trying to Lose the Excess Baby Weight."
  • Blogs - Registered users can create their own blogs to write about their weight loss journey, activities, exercise techniques, and encourage each other by commenting on posts. Weight Watchers also has five official contributor blogs with expert insights on eating, exercising and staying motivated.
  • Challenges - People searching for some extra motivation can participate in an official Weight Watchers challenge or create their very own. A popular challenge is "The 30 Minute Challenge" to promote physical activity.
  • Message Boards - For people who want to communicate directly with each other on a specific topic, there are the Community message boards where thousands of people are connecting every day.
  • Recipe Swap - A sampling of user-generated recipes is available in this section and offers enhanced recipe options for Weight Watchers Online members.
