Washington Wizards Guard Roger Mason Jr. to Host Bowling at Lucky Strike to Benefit National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Area
Date:7/2/2008

WASHINGTON, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Roger Mason Jr, Washington Wizards Guard and Washington, DC native, will host his 1st Annual Ball for a Cause on July 29 featuring bowling at Lucky Strike in Chinatown. Several of Roger's teammates are coming out to support the cause, including Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson, as well as NBA players Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, Kevin Durant, and Chris Bosh. Additionally, Craig Littlepage, Athletic Director from the University of Virginia, Mason's alma mater, will join the festivities. Proceeds from the events will benefit the National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Area (NKF/NCA).

Kidney disease is something that hits home for Mason. When Roger was 11, his father Roger Mason Sr. passed away from kidney disease. According to Mason, "It has been a dream of mine to be a part of such a wonderful organization that shares my vision. National Kidney Foundation has helped many people live a healthier and happy life. I am proud to announce our inaugural event in July. I look forward to years of supporting the cause."

Other invited guests include Wizards Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison, basketball legends Alonzo Mourning and Jalen Rose, Redskins Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, and Jason Campbell, and DC Mayor Adrian Fenty.

The event at Lucky Strike will showcase the bowling skills of some of today's top athletes and entertainers. Individual tickets are $150 and include complimentary food, drinks, a gift bag and the opportunity to mingle with athletes and other celebrities. Lanes are available for purchase for $3,500 and each lane will have a celebrity bowler and a young kidney patient.

The Washington, DC area has the highest prevalence of kidney disease in the nation but the National Kidney Foundation is working hard in the community to combat that. Funds from this event will be used to support vital research, patient services, public and physician education, and
