Sogeti Des Moines Unit to Sponsor Event to Raise Funds for the American Parkinson's Disease Association's Iowa Chapter

Dayton, OH (Vocus) August 4, 2009 -- Sogeti, a premier provider of information technology services, today announced its plans to once again partner with the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) to sponsor a walk to raise funds for the APDA. Proceeds from the event, American Parkinson's Disease Association Walking to Ease the Burden, will be used to support research, people living with Parkinson's disease, their caregivers and Parkinson's education.

"Parkinson's disease affects more people than Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease combined and the incidence of Parkinson's disease is increasing rapidly as America ages," shares Jeff Molander, President of the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association. "Currently, there is no cure, but there is help for victims of the disease and their caregivers."

Founded in 1961, the APDA works to ease the burden and find a cure through medical research, education and support for the patient and their family. "The funds raised in community events, like the Sogeti walk, allow the state chapter to provide Iowan's with needed support."

As a global company, Sogeti believes that it is important to continually give back to and protect our world. Sponsoring this walk is just one example of how Sogeti contributes to the well being of its local communities.

For one of Sogeti's Managers, Mary Jones, this walk has personal importance. Jones' father was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a number of years ago. ''His symptoms are controlled for the most part,'' Jones shares, ''however, they become more progressive day by day.'' Jones sees firsthand the way the disease impacts her father's life.

"The 2008 APDA Walking to Ease the Burden event was truly an example of teamwork and community spirit," states Jones. "And while last year was a great success, this year I would like to see us double our attendance and donations. I believe this walk gives us a great opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of friends and colleagues while raising money for an important cause at the same time."

The walk is scheduled to take place at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 19th at the Raccoon River Park Bittle and Cone Flower Shelters. The registration form is available online at www.apdaiowa.org and is due by August 31st. However, registration the day of the event is available from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Checks should be made payable to APDA and mailed to:
