Brain Cancer Brought into Spotlight Following Senator Kennedy's Diagnosis
NEW YORK, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC), the fundraising and support group dedicated to serving patients and family members affected by brain cancer, has announced that its third annual Sounding Off for a Cure event will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. The event will run from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
On the heels of Senator Ted Kennedy's tragic diagnosis, VABC is once against rallying to raise much-needed funds for both medical research and patient/family member support services.
Proceeds from the event will benefit innovative brain cancer research programs at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University's Brain Tumor Center. Additionally, donations will help fund the Raise Your Voice Program, which supports families currently dealing with this devastating disease, and a Support Group for Caregivers and Family Members of Brain Tumor Patients, held in association with the American Cancer Society.
Chairpersons Anne Roselli-Bernstein, Andrew Klein, Hillary Leibowitz and Norman Milner will begin the event by honoring New York Mets general manager Omar Minaya; Bert Padell of Padell, Nadell, Fine, Weinberger, LLP; Susan Pannullo, MD of New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center; and Evan Silverman of STG Capital Management for their dedication to raising awareness and funds for the cause.
VABC will also be presenting 2008 Voices Against Brain Cancer Courage Awards at the event. This year's recipients are being honored for their brave fights against the disease. Board Member and brain cancer survivor Dr. Jessica Henderson-Chen will present David M. Bailey, Mike Burkhardt, Fran Coleman, Richard Dieterle, Tracey Gamer Fanning, Lynn Kohlman, Darren M. Latimer, Jen McDevitt, and Jennifer Norton Pace with this year's awards.
