Voices Against Brain Cancer Congratulates Alec Panici on Being Recognized as Caregiver of the Year
Date:5/4/2013

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 04, 2013

On May 4, Voices Against Brain Cancer, an organization dedicated to brain tumor research and advocacy, congratulates 24-year old Alec Panici on being recognized as Caregiver of the Year this upcoming Sunday, May 5th, at the Join The Voices! Run/Walk being held in Chicago.

Alec Panici’s younger sister, Lisa, had surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor in January 2011. Alec put his future on hold to be by Lisa’s side during her nearly two-year fight against brain cancer, which is why he will be recognized as Caregiver of the Year at the inaugural Chicago Voices Against Brain Cancer 5k Run/Walk this upcoming Sunday.

Alec withdrew from Southern Illinois University to be with his sister throughout her battle, driving Lisa to her radiation sessions, taking her to the gym, and just spending time with her. Lisa succumbed to the cancer on December 26, 2012 with her brother by her side.
Alec’s mother, father and older brother will also attend this weekend’s run, along with their 50-member team called Dig Panici, which has risen over $6,000 for brain cancer research.

Michael Klipperman, chairman of Voices Against Brain Cancer, an organization dedicated to glioblastoma research and advocacy, praises Alec and all other family members whose loved ones are battling cancer. “We make it a point to honor the caregivers of brain cancer patients because they are the unsung heroes behind brain cancer, and they need to know that all that they sacrifice is appreciated not only by their loved ones but by the entire VABC community.”

VABC has a wide variety of initiatives in place for brain cancer research, awareness and support. The organization’s research grants fund cutting-edge research programs that will have a monumental impact on the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. VABC currently funds research at several esteemed institutions such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, John Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Yale, to name a few.

VABC's mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
