Voices Against Brain Cancer Commends Andrew Bauer For Raising Awareness About Brain Cancer

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 01, 2013

On April 1, 2013, Voices Against Brain Cancer applauds the actions of 6th-grader Andrew Bauer, who helped raise awareness of brain cancer in Long Valley Middle School. Bauer encouraged classmates and teachers to wear gray in support of fighting the disease, and raised funds in order to help find a cure.

Bauer, along with some of his classmates and teachers, drew attention to brain cancer by wearing gray en masse. Those who donated money to VABC's fund received bracelets. The project was part of the class-wide “Change the World Project,” created by Bauer’s 6th grade history teacher, Mr. Mathew Marciano.

Bauer says he wants to change the world by helping to fight brain cancer, and explained that one of the reasons he was encouraged to raise awareness of brain cancer was because of MLBPA leader Michael Weiner, whose well-documented struggles with his own inoperable brain tumor have been an inspiration to many. “Mr. Weiner used to be my Hebrew school teacher, and he inspired me to support this cause. He is a hero to me, so brave and strong.” Andrew is part of the fundraising team Friends of Mike, and was able to raise $150 for his cause, which will not only go to helping fight brain cancer, but will also be dedicated to the Friends of Mike team.

With his school awareness-raising campaign a success, Andrew Bauer is already planning bigger things. He hopes to sponsor a bake sale at his temple, where his hero Mike Weiner was his 4th and 5th grade teacher, and hopes to raise even more money.

Michael Klipper, Chairman of VABC applauds Andrew for all the hard work he’s done raising awareness. “Andrew is an inspiration to us all. He’s helping kids his age, and even his teachers, realize that brain cancer is a real problem, and won’t go away without the help and support of communities across the world. We at VABC thank Andrew and his supporters at the Long Valley Middle School for all of their hard work. Hopefully Andrew will have just as much success when he hosts his bake sale!”

VABC has a wide variety of initiatives in place for brain cancer research, awareness and support. The organization’s research grants fund cutting-edge research programs that will have a monumental impact on the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. VABC currently funds research at several esteemed institutions such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, John Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Yale, to name a few.

VABC's mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
