Vocollect and Boston Software Systems Announce Strategic Partnership
Date:9/14/2009

PITTSBURGH and SHERBORN, Mass., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Vocollect, Inc., the global leader in voice technology and Boston Software Systems, the leader in workflow automation to the healthcare market, today announced a strategic partnership. Under the agreement, Vocollect will use Boston WorkStation(TM) automation technology to enable AccuNurse(R) voice-assisted care to seamlessly integrate with MEDITECH and other leading health care platforms. As a result, nurses cut down on paperwork, improve accuracy of information into MEDITECH and gain more quality time with patients.

Butler Memorial Hospital, a community hospital located in Butler, Pennsylvania, recently piloted AccuNurse voice-assisted care with its IV nursing team, and is now in the process of fully implementing the technology. The MEDITECH interface, which was developed in conjunction with the pilot project at Butler Memorial Hospital, is now available to other MEDITECH sites.

According to Thomas McGill, MD, VP of quality and safety at Butler Memorial Hospital, "Although we've had great success with MEDITECH, we faced some challenges including spending a lot of time documenting patient interactions and not having access to all the data needed at the point of care. In the fall of 2008, we completed a pilot with AccuNurse voice-assisted care and saw significant improvements in the workflow. Documentation time was reduced by as much as 75% and staff required very little time to search for patient information. By implementing AccuNurse, our nurses no longer have to carry or handle the multitude of devices such as pagers, phones, paper charts and computers. They are able to complete all of their charting simply by talking, and retrieve patient information as needed at the point of care. As a result, our MEDITECH system is now much more useful at the point of care, and we're extending the benefits of AccuNurse to other MEDITECH-enabled areas of the hospital, such as Physical Therapy and Transitional Care."

Amar Kapadia, director of acute care for Vocollect said, "We're enthused about the partnership with Boston Software Systems because the interface between AccuNurse voice-assisted care and health care platforms such as MEDITECH, means better, more seamless charting and documentation results at the point of care. For Vocollect, it opens up a new channel for expanding the utilization of voice-assisted care in acute care settings. AccuNurse makes the patient experience much more pleasant, saves time for hospital staff and affords them more time with patients."

Steve Cohen, executive vice president and COO of Boston Software Systems said, "The integration between AccuNurse and leading hospital information systems like MEDITECH demonstrates our commitment to increasing efficiency and cost savings to the healthcare industry. As patient care gets more overwhelming, so does the paperwork and process flow. Being able to connect AccuNurse with MEDITECH enables hospitals to have better documentation, more accurate reimbursements, and an improved quality of care for their patients. Boston WorkStation helps hospitals save weeks of work, thousands of dollars, and empowers staff to better meet their patients' needs."
