Virtual Doctors Offer New, Treatment Plan to Recent Mental Health Crisis in USA

Depression is a mental disorder that affects 1 in 10 Americans at one point or another in their lives. Depression symptoms can be difficult to manage and often require professional medical care. 6.7% of Americans are diagnosed with depression every year, and the number rises by 20% annually. Depression is most common among people between the ages of 45 and 64. Symptoms of depression can include fatigue and decreased energy, feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism, feelings of worthlessness and/or guilt, and insomnia or excessive sleeping.

60 to 80 percent of all depression cases can be effectively treated with brief, structured forms of psychotherapy and/or antidepressant medication. Common forms of psychotherapy used to treat depression include cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a form of psychotherapy which challenges the relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behavior, using exercises to establish new ways of thinking. Interpersonal therapy focuses on improving interpersonal relationships that may contribute to a person’s depression.
