Vincent Corso and Daniel Trush Win 2007 Avis 'We Try Harder' Awards

Both Winners to Run ING New York City Marathon 2007 and be Recognized for

Courage and Perseverance by New York Road Runners and Avis

NEW YORK, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Road Runners and Avis Rent A Car System, LLC, announced today that Vincent Corso and Daniel Trush have won the fourth-annual Avis "We Try Harder" award in conjunction with the ING New York City Marathon 2007. The award celebrates people who endeavor to overcome considerable obstacles through courage and extraordinary effort. A panel that included representatives from Avis, Achilles Track Club and New York Road Runners selected the two winners from among hundreds of ING New York City Marathon participants nominated by friends and family.

Vincent Corso, Westfield, N.J.

Corso will be participating in his first ING New York City Marathon this year. Corso weighed 305 pounds in 2005 when the Westfield, N.J. native decided to change his life by joining a weight loss program. By 2006, he had lost nearly 150 pounds and reached his goal weight of 162 pounds. Corso then began what he referred to as his first "real run." Soon after, his wife gave him a membership to New York Road Runners, a gesture that he refers to as "the best gift [he's] ever received." Now Corso -- or "Skinny Vinny" as some have taken to calling him -- is a passionate runner. After completing a half-marathon earlier this year, Corso is set for the biggest challenge of his life. Only two years after weighing more than 300 pounds, this accountant will be lined up with 38,000 runners at the start of the ING New York City Marathon 2007.

Daniel Trush, New York, N.Y.

As a 12-year-old, Daniel Trush's life was filled with movement. From music to athletics, Trush was never standing still. However, while playing basketball with his family one day, Trush came running off the court with his head in his hands. What his father thought was disappointment from missing a shot turned out to be a brain aneurism. The weeks that followed saw young Daniel fight through a coma while doctors began to doubt if he would even survive. He did survive, and thanks to physical therapy and years of treatment, Trush was able to move on his own after two years of being in a wheelchair. Now 22 years old, Trush is more active than ever. The young man runs a free music program aimed at engaging disabled and autistic people in the New York City area, and though doctors doubted he would ever walk again, he will be at the starting line for the ING New York City Marathon 2007. After walking half of the marathon a year ago, Trush will be walking and handcycling 26.2 miles from Staten Island to Central Park. The man doctors referred to as a "miracle boy" will be joined by his brother, father and coach as they all encourage others with his tale of perseverance.

"Avis has a long-standing commitment to making travel more accessible for everyone as evidenced by our Avis Access program," said Becky Alseth, senior vice president of marketing for Avis Budget Group, parent of Avis. "We're proud to continue the tradition of honoring extraordinary athletes who succeed despite considerable obstacles and we congratulate Vincent and Daniel on winning our 'We Try Harder' award."

In 2004, Avis introduced Avis Access, the most comprehensive suite of products in the car rental industry aimed at making travel more accessible for travelers with disabilities. Available free of charge with all Avis car rentals, Avis Access products include transfer boards, swivel seats, spinner knobs, hand-controls and panoramic mirrors. Last year, Avis also introduced a national training program to educate employees on how to recognize different types of disabilities and how best to assist these customers. Avis employees are also trained in the correct usage of terminology and language when dealing with persons that are sight or hearing impaired, speech-impaired or use wheelchairs.

Avis Access products will be on display for demonstration at the ING New York City Marathon Expo in Booth #242. For more information or to make a reservation, call 1-888-TRY-HARD (879-4273), contact a local travel professional or visit
