San Francisco bariatric surgeon, Paul Cirangle, was honored as a key speaker at the annual meeting for the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the preeminent organization for weight loss surgeons and bariatric allied health care providers. He spoke at three courses to share with his colleagues the positive benefits of the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, believed to be the future procedure of weight loss surgery.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 9, 2009 - Paul Cirangle, MD, FACS, of Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco, was honored to speak at the annual American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) meeting held in Grapevine, Texas, June 21-26. ASMBS is the largest organization for bariatric surgeons in the world. Over 1,900 surgeons were in attendance.
Dr. Cirangle, a pioneer in bariatric surgery, spoke at three different courses to share his positive clinical outcomes performing the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Dr. Cirangle's participation further demonstrates his ongoing commitment to collaborating with the surgical community to ensure the most effective treatment for obesity and optimize patient outcomes. "Presenting is not only a great honor, but recognintion as a leader in the field," said Dr. Cirangle. A number of prominent bariartic surgeons also presented different topics pertaining to the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the duodenal switch, Lapband and Realize band procedures.
Dr. Cirangle and Dr. Gregg Jossart of Laparosocpic Associates of San Francisco have the world's largest number of vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedures (1,300 since 2002). "Recently the vertical sleeve gastrectomy has become the predominant topic as more surgeons and patients realize that this presents an excellent option for surgical weight loss," says Dr. Cirangle. "The vertical sleeve gastrectomy has an extremely high success rate of curing diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea. After the vertical sleeve procedure, the quality of life of our patients drastically improves, allowing them to break free of the everyday boundaries that obesity causes."
As well as practicing throughout Northern and Central California including Sacramento, San Jose and the San Luis Obispo area, Dr. Cirangle is also the director of The Surgical Weight Loss Center of Hawaii. He is the only fellowship-trained surgeon in the state of Hawaii, as well as the only surgeon to operate at a Center of Excellence. Dr. Cirangle's practice is the only one of its kind in Hawaii that treats patients on the outer islands of Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai. This makes it possible for all Hawaiians to have the opportunity seek out their weight loss surgery options without having to travel back and forth to Honolulu, where most physicians have a sole practice.
Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco and The Surgical Weight Loss Center of Hawaii offer four weight loss surgeries; the adjustable gastric band (LAP-BAND® and REALIZE™), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy , and the duodenal switch. These procedures are all done laparoscopically, with very little downtime. Three-year weight loss surgery results indicated that both of Dr. Cirangle's practices have a 10-20% higher than national average in patient outcomes among all four procedures.
Dr. Cirangle advises that anyone interested in the vertical sleeve gastrectomy or other weight-loss surgery procedures should research the options beforehand and should only consult a fellowship-trained surgeon with proven experience and expertise in the procedure preferred.
