Versus Technology to Showcase Leading Enterprise Patient and Clinical Workflow Solutions at HIMSS 2009

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Recently, researchers at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business conducted a study of U.S. hospitals and discovered that poor communication has cost the nation $12 billion a year. The study recommended solutions, including location-based technology, to improve communication and help identify caregiver locations. The results of this study come at a time when Versus Technology, Inc. will be highlighting efficiency gains, improved communication and workflow optimization as a result of Versus' enterprise real-time locating system (RTLS) at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in Chicago, IL April 5-8, 2009.

Whereas the University of Maryland's study denotes the benefits of location-based technology for "staff" -- specifically nurses, Versus focuses on how the workflow benefits extend to staff in all departments, from lab technicians and clinical engineering staff to nurses, physicians and the C-suite. Versus will also discuss the additional and often unexpected beneficiaries, including, but not limited to, the hospital's existing information systems, clergy, social workers, volunteers and EMTs. Above all, Versus keys in on the patient and the many benefits an accurate RTLS brings to timely, effective and safe patient care.

The Versus locating system has gained widespread recognition delivering clinical quality outcomes. In fact, Versus was recently awarded the Frost & Sullivan 2009 Leadership of the Year Award for Healthcare RTLS. Additionally, the American Hospital Association recently cited the Versus locating system as a best practice for managing patient throughput in the Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence series. Versus is the only RTLS vendor to receive these honors, and with good reason. Versus has documented numerous cases of proven time savings, resulting in greater efficiency for staff and peace of mind for patients, in addition to millions of dollars captured as a result of improved processes. Versus will be showcasing its solutions and client successes at HIMSS, Booth #4651, Hall A.

  • Versus will be offering live locating demonstrations and our experts will be on hand to answer any questions.
  • During a special Pavilion Product Session, Deb Brown, CHR Analyst & Project Manager from St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, WA (one of our PeaceHealth sites) will be co-presenting with HT Snowday, CTO of Versus. The session, Beyond Locating: Using RTLS in Support of Positive Clinical Outcomes is scheduled for Sunday, April 5th, 2009 from 5:15-6:00 PM and will explain how staff at St. Joseph Hospital view their two, physically separated EDs simultaneously as well as increased efficiencies and enhanced communication of patient and visit milestones as a result of the Versus system.
  • Sunday, April 5, 2009 from 9:45-10:45 am, Henry Tenarvitz, Chief Intellectual Property Officer of Versus and Cindy McKinney, FHIMSS Director of Healthcare of IBM Healthlink Solutions will present Leveraging Dashboards to Monitor Clinical Process Improvement.

Beyond stop-loss programs and helping hospitals recoup that estimated $4 million lost to poor communication (at a typical 500-bed facility), Versus helps generate additional revenue through real-time improvements to Key Performance Indicators, effective bed management and lean-process improvement reporting. Versus' infrared and active RFID locating system is exclusively endorsed by the American Hospital Association as part of its Patient Flow Platform, in part due to Versus' ability to affect transformational change to the care delivery network.
